Welcome Chamberlain University Nurse Faculty Loan (NFLP) Borrowers!

Tuition Options is the third-party loan servicer for Chamberlain University. Here you will find information and resources regarding the repayment of your NFLP loan with Chamberlain University, serviced by Tuition Options.

Eligible students must intend to teach full-time (or in multiple adjunct positions resulting in full-time equivalency) at an accredited school of nursing for up to four consecutive years following completion of their degree program.

Up to 85% of an NFLP loan (including accrued interest) can be forgiven if the service obligation (up to four consecutive years working as nurse faculty) is completed.

 

Repayment

Repayment begins nine (9) months after the borrower does one of the following:

    • Completes the program.
    • Ceases to be enrolled as a student in the eligible program.

 

Employment Certification & Partial Loan Cancellation

In order to be eligible for Partial Cancellation, you must:

    • Graduate from the nursing faculty program.
    • Complete a full year of employment after you graduated from your program at Chamberlain University.
    • Submit forms within 30 days of the yearly anniversary of your graduation. (i.e., if you graduated on April 15th, submit forms between March 15th and April 15th)
    • Forms are required to be re-submitted each year (up to 4 years) to be eligible for partial cancellation.

The following forms are required:

Borrowers must submit a completed Employment Certification Form and Request for Partial Cancellation  annually to Chamberlain University for consideration* along with a copy of a recent paystub. Employment prior to graduation of MSN (Nurse Educator Track) or DNP is not included when determining years of employment as nurse faculty.  It is the borrower’s responsibility to complete and submit these forms 30 days prior to the end of each year in order to be eligible for loan cancellation/reduction.

 

Postponing Payments

Borrowers who complete their program and are employed full-time as nurse faculty at an accredited school of nursing may be eligible to postpone repayment of their NFLP loan. Borrowers must submit the required documents 30 days before the end of the initial 9 month repayment grace period to be eligible – not earlier – and annually thereafter to continue to postpone payments.

In order to be eligible for postponement, you must:

    • Complete your program.
    • Be employed full-time as nurse faculty.
    • Submit the following forms 30 days before your first payment/repayment begins – not earlier.
    • Forms must be submitted annually (30 days prior to the end of each year) to remain eligible for postponement.

Deferment

Deferment is available to borrowers who qualify.  Read, complete and submit the Deferment Form for consideration along with supporting documents*.

NFLP borrowers are eligible for deferment for up to three years,

    • When the borrower is ordered to active duty as a member of a uniformed service of the United States (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Corps, or the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps).
    • Service as a volunteer under the Peace Corps Act.

NFLP borrowers are eligible for deferment for up to ten years

    • When the borrower that graduates and is employed, decides to return to a graduate nursing education degree program, another degree, or to pursue advanced professional training in nursing such as a post-doctoral program/fellowship.  This can be half-time or full-time enrollment.

A borrower who voluntarily joins a uniformed service is not eligible for deferment, nor is a borrower who is employed by one of the uniformed services in a civilian capacity.

During periods of deferment, interest on the loan continues to accrue but is not required to be paid during this period. During the period of deferment, the borrower may repay the interest if they wish but is not required to do so.

 

Forbearance

Forbearance is available to borrowers who qualify. Read, complete and submit the Forbearance Request Form and supporting documents for consideration*.

Chamberlain University may, in its discretion, place the Borrower’s NFLP loan in forbearance when extraordinary circumstances such as poor health or hardship temporarily affect the Borrower’s ability repay the loan.  During forbearance, principal payments are delayed; however, interest will continue to accrue.

 

Death Forgiveness

Total and Permanent Disability Forgiveness

Total and Permanent Disability Forgiveness is available. In the event of total and permanent disability please read, complete and submit the Disability Checklist Form and any supporting documentation for review*.
